Clan Morrison is a Scottish Clan that is traditionally associated with the Isle of Lewis and Harris in the Hebrides located off the northwestern coast of Scotland.
The Clan Morrison Society, founded in Scotland in 1909, was granted its own coat of arms by the Lord Lyon, King of Arms.
In the United States and Canada, there were formerly two organizations---the American Section of the Clan Morrison Society and a Clan Morison of North America. In the late 1980s, these unified into the present day, Clan Morrison Society of North America.
It is important to remember that the clan and the society are not the same.
Membership in the clan is inherited, but membership in a society is usually paid for. You are born into a clan but you have to join a society.
The society exists to promote an understanding of the clan, its history and its chief, and further to encourage the development of related Scottish or Celtic traditional skills and knowledge.
Membership in the Clan Morrison Society of North America is generally, but not limited to, those persons having, by birth, marriage, or adoption, the name of some form of Morrison, Gilmore, or Brieve; or descended from such a person.
